Le Pôle langues recherche pour le 2e semestre un enseignant ou une enseignante (anglais Niveau C2) pour assurer trois TDs de L2 en Anglais appliqué aux Sciences politiques (programmes pédagogiques « clés-en-main » : ci-dessous, programme détaillé).

Course description

This course serves as an introduction—but not a comprehensive account—of key issues structuring modern American political life. It will be divided into four themes: (1) Political Participation, (2) Parties and Polarization, (3) Race and Racism, and (4) Immigration and Multiculturalism.  In the first part, we will consider how sociological determinants as well as other extrinsic factors (e.g., social pressure) interact to produce different levels of voter participation. We will subsequently explore the impact of voter suppression in modern America.

In the second part, we will look at the role of political parties in creating, structuring, and nurturing political polarization. We will also consider how this phenomenon influences the policymaking process.  In the third part, we will briefly look at the history of minorities in the United States and more specifically at African American history in the American South. We will examine how this history is relevant towards explaining political perceptions and policy preferences in 21st century America.  Last, we will examine how both real and perceived racial demographic changes in the United States affect Americans’ perceptions of national identity. We will consider how these affect policy debates.
