History of the european legal system (3004)

The purpose of the class is to trace the major steps in the formation of the Civil Law and the Common Law traditions. A first chapter will delineate the antique foundations of both traditions in the Greek and Roman periods, and two other chapters will review the historical development of each system until the 18^th century, focusing on the legal sources and the role of codification.
