La République universelle à l’épreuve de la transidentité

Le Centre de droit public comparé (CDPC) organise une journée d'étude intitulée La République universelle à l’épreuve de la transidentité (The Universal Republic tested by Trans-Identity) le jeudi 22 juin 2023.

Résumé

Toute société oscille entre le tout-nature et le tout-culture: d’un côté, nous ne serions que le fruit de nos gênes et de nos instincts. De l’autre, la volonté toute puissante façonnerait ce que nous sommes: je peux être un homme ou une femme; un animal ou une plante; un robot… Au coeur de toute civilisation, reste la question de l’identité citoyenne: or la définition de « ce que je suis » heurte de plein fouet le transhumanisme ou la transidentité. Quels sont les fondements philosophiques, scientifiques ou juridiques d’une identité citoyenne à l’heure où la fluidité de l’apparence contredit la permanence de l’être ? 

Le colloque, réunissant juristes, philosophes et scientifiques abordera ces trois questions afin d’éclairer la réflexion contemporaine de ce regard croisé interdisciplinaire.  

Abstract

Every society oscillates between the all-natural and the all-cultural: on the one hand, we would be the fruit of our genes and instincts. On the other hand, the all-powerful will would shape what we are: I can be a man or a woman; an animal or a plant; a robot… At the heart of any civilisation, there remains the question of civic identity: and the definition of « what I am » collides head-on with transhumanism or transidentity. What are the philosophical, scientific or legal foundations of a legal identity at a time when the fluidity of appearance contradicts the permanence of being? 

The colloquium, bringing together lawyers, philosophers and scientists, will address these three questions in order to shed light on contemporary thinking from this interdisciplinary perspective.
